Is it really free? Yes. No strings attached. Are the servers reliable? Once the comic gets up, it will generally stay up and update ok. However, sometimes other things like FTP access will be unreliable. How much space can I use? As long as you aren't a jerk about it, you can pretty much have all the space you need. If it's more than 20mb total you should probably contact the people who run it first. Will my site load fast when people look at it? It will load pretty fast. Are there any contracts/etc? Nope. Can I leave keenspace whenever I want? Yes. No strings attached. What's the difference between Keenspace and Keenspot? The really good Keenspace comics move over to Keenspot and start making a little money. Or something like that. What is 'breaking the fourth wall?' When the comic admits that it's just a comic. Example: one of the characters talks to the audience. Stuff like this is often overdone. My art sucks. Is it okay to stick it on keenspace? There are no skill requirements for a keenspace account. Also, please note that no matter how badly you draw, there's probably someone on keenspace who draws worse. What do I do when the FTP isn't working? 1.) Try to go to the keenspace comic login site. It will ask you for your username and password. If you get in, they're valid. If not, you've found the problem. 2.) Download and install WS_FTP LE (freeware). Use this to connect. 3.) A comic designed using old video game style sprites (images). Frequently the sprites will be reused over and over. Where can I get fonts for my comic? MS Comic Sans looks decent and is already on your computer. Some online cartoonists hate this with a passion though. acidfonts.com is a good place to look. Personal suggestion: try 16 color png for pencil sketches and black and white comics. Use jpg at 85% compression for everything else. What do I use to draw the comic? Personal suggestions: use a plain 0.5mm mechanical pencil to draw it. Use HB lead if you can. For inking, use a 08 Sakura Micron. Pencil sketch, ink, let dry, erase pencil. Are there any good freeware graphics programs? Personal suggestions: The Gimp (freeware) Irfan View (free for noncommercial purposes. $10 otherwise) How long does it take to get a Keenspace account?
